For this article, we will now focus on the features of Crestron and Savant. Which is best?
Features Crestron and Savant Have in Common
Crestron and Savant both let you control all of your smart home features through a single app, whether it's with a smartphone, tablet, remote, or even with voice commands.
With Crestron or Savant's system you can control and automate:
- Window shades
- Security systems and cameras
- Climate control
- Multi-room audio
- Home theater
- Garage doors and gates
- And more
For example, when you leave the house the system can be programmed to lower the motorized shades, turn off the lights, raise the thermostat, lock the doors, and arm the security system. All with a single button.
Both systems allow you to create preset configurations as needed. Such as for waking up, coming home, when on vacation, or simply getting the house ready for dinner guests.
Mobile apps are not the only way to control your home setup. Both have versatile remotes with touch screens and voice control.
Savant Home Automation
Savant has been around since 2005, and mostly focuses on residential smart home technology. They have a well-earned reputation for providing a luxurious experience with a stylish user interface.
- Easier and quicker to install than Crestron
- Quicker installs usually make Savant more affordable
- Sleek user interface
- High-end audio solutions available
- Integrates beautifully with Apple products
- Fantastic lighting options through their mobile app
- Integrates with Savant's energy efficient and net-zero energy power solutions
Savant does not have the same level of advanced customization and large list of third-party compatibility that Crestron does.
For most homes, Savant can be customized to meet user needs. And in a new home or renovation, third-party compatibility isn't an issue as Savant-compatible hardware can simply be installed.
Pick Savant If...
Savant is an amazing solution that can be easily and affordably installed in homes large and small.
Savant Power solutions also allow you to fully modernize your home's electrical system and carbon footprint.
If you don't need out-of-the-ordinary customization, or integration with less common third-party devices, then Savant would be the best choice.
Crestron Home Automation
Crestron has been in business for decades — since 1971. They serve businesses, universities, and even specialty niches like yachts. And of course, they have home solutions too.
- Can be customized and programmed to perform nearly any action desired
- Integrates with nearly all systems you may have, regardless of brand (HVAC, garage doors, security systems)
- Has complete solutions for offices and yachts, if you're wanting the same system for all locations
- They manufacture many of their own hardware products
The extra customization and device support makes Crestron more expensive.
Savant is very much a user-oriented home solution, while Crestron's biggest market is businesses. This different focus comes through at times, with their user interfaces.
Crestron also does not have the energy management solutions that Savant Power does. So if you're looking to reduce your home's carbon footprint or go energy independent, Savant is needed.
Pick Crestron If...
Pick Crestron if you need advanced programming or need to integrate a large number of less popular third-party devices.
Crestron is also recommended if you have a massive home (mansion), or are looking for a solution for your business.
